CELEBRATING OUR GCNJ CLUB PROJECTS
Kudos to Country Garden Club for their involvement in the Holly Trail House Tour, an important Holiday Community event and fundraising activity in Hunterdon County for the past 50 years. The event raises funds for the Brightside Adult Day Care Facility. This year Country Garden Club, and all of its 18 members, volunteered to decorate a house on the tour. The challenge in decorating each home is that all decorations must be handmade. The Country Garden Club increased the challenge by using only recycled and/or plant-based materials. The home they decorated was an historical home built in 1760 and the decorating needed to be consistent with the age and history of the home.
It was a substantial undertaking for a club with 18 members, who made several hundred handmade ornaments that adorned Christmas trees, table centerpieces, window swags and mantles. Egg cartons were used to make beautiful centerpieces and recycled hangars were used to create the large snowflakes lining the gardens. In total five rooms were decorated. Club members also harvested greens from their own gardens to complement the handmade decorations. See the pictures attached to enjoy this lovely creation.
When I asked how such a small club could accomplish such an outstanding endeavor, President Michele Liana told me, “ Well, this was an important event in our community that raised monies for a very worthy cause. Sadly, this will be the last year that the County will host this tour and we wanted to be a part of this final tour.”
Again, congratulations to Country Garden Club and their members!!
Providing beauty, creatively presented and giving back to our communities are values for which the Garden Club of New Jersey proudly stands. This project clearly embodies all of these values!!
